Timeline
Having worked as a professional photographer for nearly three decades, I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked on some fantastic projects. This timeline looks at some of my favourites. Click on the image in each section to view a full-size gallery.
1996
Camel Trophy Kalimantan '96
This was the first major expedition I did for Land Rover and effectively the start of my career as a freelance photographer back in 1996. I spent three weeks living out of a Discovery in the Bornean jungle, where the going was so hard that the convoy only managed 500 miles in the first two weeks. Right there I decided that this would be an excellent way to earn a living.
1997
Camel Trophy Mongolia '97
With the introduction of mountain biking, kayaking and orienteering, Camel Trophy developed into more of an adventure sports competition in 1997. The stunning landscape of Mongolia also offered a very different look to the traditional Camel Trophy jungle image.
1998
Camel Trophy Tierra del Fuego '98
My third year photographing for Camel Trophy, working for RPM Photographic, Camel Trophy's photo agency. 1998 saw Freelanders and Defenders heading south from Santiago, Chile, to Ushuaia, Cape Horn. It would be Land Rover's last Camel Trophy.
2000
Camel Trophy Tonga Samoa 2000
After a break of one year and Land Rover no longer as co-sponsor, the year 2000 would see the last Camel Trophy event. It was the biggest ever, with 40 competitors navigating Ribtech RIBs around the South Pacific islands of Tonga and Samoa. Once again I was part of the official CT photographic team.
2001 - 2003
Team Bentley at Le Mans
I was part of Team Bentley during their successful three year campaign to win the 24 Heures du Mans , although sadly I missed the final winning race as I was working on the 2003 Land Rover G4 Challenge at the same time... The black and white images were shot on Kodak TRI-X film using a Hasselblad XPan panoramic camera.
2003
Land Rover G4 Challenge 2003
After Camel Trophy finished in 2000, Land Rover replaced it with their own event: the Land Rover G4 Challenge. I was one of the two event photographers for Land Rover from the inaugural event in 2003.
2003
Last Flight of Concorde
Although sadly I never got to fly in the world’s only commercial supersonic passenger aircraft, I was the photographer working for British Airways at the party thrown to commemorate its 27 years in service.
2003
Breitling Apache Jet Display Team
A wonderful opportunity to fly with the Breitling Apache Jet Display Team out of Jerez. As well as air to air photography, I had to produce a full set of images with the pilots and the newly-launched Bentley Continental GT.
2004
Club Fiorano Ferrari
Club Fiorano was a members only club run by Ferrari UK, allowing customers to drive their cars on circuits around the world, at the same time offering performance driving instruction. I produced photography for promotional materials and the beautifully produced leather-bound club handbooks.
2004
Bentley Driving
Images produced for Bentley Motors to promote their various training and experience programmes. Includes images taken at their Chauffeur course in the UK, wet handling training and winter driving programme in Sweden.
2005
Aston Martin V8 Vantage Launch
The global media drive of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, an important car that launched Aston Martin as a global player. I was one of two photographers commissioned to capture a suite of images of the cars, as well as cover the launch event itself.
2005
Aston Martin range photoshoot, North Wales
A full range shoot for Aston Martin in North Wales. In 2005 when these images were taken, the range featured the Vanquish, DB9 Coupé, DB9 Volante and V8 Vantage.
2006
Bentley Mille Miglia
A commission by Bentley Motors to capture their vintage Blower taking part in the famous Mille Miglia, from Brescia to Rome and back. Not a job for the faint hearted, you have to be able to think quickly on your feet as well as have a pretty good plan at the beginning.
2005
Land Rover Discovery 3 & Iceland
In October 2005, just before the onset of winter, Land Rover ran a series of adventure drives in the wilds of Iceland. I was the photographer tasked with capturing the event for its media guests. The extreme winter weather pushed the team, me, my gear and the vehicles to the limit.
2006
Land Rover G4 Challenge 2006
The second Land Rover G4 Challenge in 2006 saw us travel from Thailand to Bolivia with Laos and Brazil in between. Once again I was one of the two Land Rover photographers capturing the event on camera.
2006
George P Johnson UK
A commission to capture some of the team working at George P. Johnson in the UK. The brief was to capture the personality and professionalism of the team as well as their working environment.
2007 - 2010
Le Mans 24 - 2007 - 2010
Commissions by Aston Martin to capture their presence at the 24 Heures du Mans race between 2007 and 2010. As well as long-lens track action, there was a requirement for night-time pit photography, behind the scenes imagery and studio photography of the 2008 winning DBR9.
2007
The Last Aston Martin Vanquish
A project to capture the last Aston Martin Vanquishes being built at the company's Newport Pagnell factory, prior to its closure in 2007. Shot on a mixture of Kodak TRI-X 120 film with Mamiya 6 rangefinder and Canon EOS 1Ds MkII digital. I had visited the same factory twenty years previously as part of the Aston Martin Young Supporters' Club..!
2008
Bugatti Veyron, Spain
Photoshoot for Bugatti to capture an all-black Veyron. Shot on location in southern Spain as well as Calvert Studios' outdoor platform and daylight studio. On this shoot we were the first external client to use Calvert's flooded floor to produce a perfect mirror image.
2008
Land Rover LRX in New York
A two-day shoot in Manhattan with the Land Rover LRX concept car that eventually spawned the Range Rover Evoque. Although the vehicle pictured is a show car (effectively a life-size model with an engine), we were able to capture moving stills of the concept at various locations in and around New York City.
2008
Bentley Brooklands, Oman and Italy
The preview and launch of the beautiful Bentley Brooklands in Italy and Oman.
2008
Vintage Bentleys at Brooklands
A unique gathering of vintage Bentleys at the famous Brooklands banked circuit, now incomplete and rarely used. With such a collection of historic team cars such a legendary place, we had to give them a quick blast on the bit that remains, before heading up to Bentley Motors in Crewe, Cheshire.
2008 - 2011
Land Rover Burghley 2008 - 2011
One of the nice things about working with companies like Land Rover, is that it’s not always about photographing vehicles. Here’s a series of images from the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials from 2008 - 2011.
2008
Range Rover Oman
An adventure run by Land Rover Experience in late 2008, featuring the Supercharged Range Rover. Starting in Muscat, the Range Rovers headed out into the magnificent Omani dunes for a night's camping under the stars. After more dune driving, the convoy returned to Muscat via a mountain pass.
2008

A commission from Jaguar Cars to capture the celebratory convoy of 75 historic Jaguars driving from Coventry Transport Museum to the Goodwood Revival via London.

Aston Martin One-77
A series of images commissioned by Aston Martin capturing the production of the One-77 supercar
2010
Bentley Ice Speed Record
Three days capturing the fastest man on Ice, Juha Kankkunen, breaking the world Ice Speed Record in a Bentley Continental Supersports GTC.
